Facilities Operations and Management (FO&M) at Dartmouth College is seeking an integral member of its senior management team to fill the position of Director of Custodial Services. The Director oversees the custodial operations of all non-residential buildings, approximately 4,000,000 square feet, as well as trash, recycling and composting operations for all college facilities (5,000,000 sqft). The Director manages a staff of four supervisors and 138 custodians and trash workers who work three shifts, seven days a week. The Director is also the College contact for pest control services utilizing a contracted vendor.
The Director is responsible for evaluating custodial standards in all College facilities, keeping up with new cleaning methods and products, being an active member of professional custodial service organizations, and collaborating with the senior management team reviewing FO&M policies, processes and procedures with the goal of improving customer service and satisfaction. The Director will hire and work with student interns who encourage the student body to “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” to help divert our waste stream through recycling and composting.
This position requires a Bachelors degree, experience in the field of custodial services with knowledge of solid waste disposal, recycling and composting, and eight to ten years of personnel management. Key qualifications are: strong supervisory and organizational skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, and the skills to work as an effective team member with a commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse community.
